The 16-Week Velocity Development Program for Catchers & Position Players

BUILD FORCE → ACCELERATE THE ARM → RESTORE CAPACITY → EXPRESS VELOCITY

Velocity Is No Longer Optional

At Perfect Game's National Showcase, the number of high schoolers throwing 95+ mph jumped from 5 in 2014 to 36 in 2024. Division I middle infielders are expected to throw 85–95 mph across the diamond. Catchers are measured on sub-2.0-second pop times. Corner and outfield arms get judged on a radar gun, same as pitchers.

"A scouting report with a number attached carries more weight than one built on impression alone."

Velocity isn't a bonus tool anymore — it's the first filter. The Facility Arm Speed System exists to build it deliberately, safely, and on the record.

A Complete System, Not a Drill List

This is a 16-week, 4-day-per-week, coach-controlled manual — built for prepared, coach-supervised catchers and position players who want measurable, repeatable velocity gains without gambling with arm health.

16weeks of periodized programming
4coached training days per week
5standardized testing checkpoints
1complete, ready-to-run system

How It Works

Each week follows a fixed rhythm designed around how the arm actually adapts:

  • Monday — Build the Engine. Heavy-implement force work that trains the legs, hips, and trunk to do the work — not the arm.
  • Tuesday — Accelerate the Arm. Underload throws that teach the nervous system to fire faster, with the highest top-effort ceiling of the week.
  • Wednesday — Restore & Decelerate. No high-intent throwing. Arm care, easy catch play, and recovery — where Monday and Tuesday's stress actually converts into gains.
  • Thursday — Express the Engine. Long-toss or radar-focused sessions where trained capacity becomes tested velocity.

Every four weeks, volume drops 30–40% for a deload and checkpoint test — so the body absorbs the work instead of just accumulating it.

Built-In Guardrails, Not Guesswork

  • Daily readiness gates (Green / Yellow / Red) that adjust the day's dose to how the athlete actually feels
  • Automatic stop rules — velocity decay, accuracy loss, or mechanical breakdown end a high-intent block on the spot
  • Honest workload accounting that folds in team throwing, lessons, and games — not just the program itself
  • Pain ends throwing. Full stop, every time.

This isn't a velocity program bolted onto whatever else the athlete is already doing. It's the plan that accounts for everything else.

Documented Progress, Not Just a Good Outing

Testing at Weeks 1, 4, 8, 12, and 16 uses the same warm-up, ball, distance, target, and radar setup every time — turning training into a standardized record an athlete can put in front of a coach or scout.

Tracked at every checkpoint:

  • Peak and mean velocity
  • Velocity spread (fatigue/consistency)
  • Accuracy percentage
  • Pop time (catchers) or crow-hop release (position players)
  • Arm health and 24-hour recovery response

Grounded in the Research

Every phase is built on published work, not internet folklore — periodization theory (Bompa), pitching kinematic-sequence research (Fleisig et al.), weighted-ball and underload/overload velocity studies (Reinold et al.; Erickson et al.; Caldwell et al.), and workload-monitoring research linking throwing spikes to injury risk.

What's Inside

  • Full week-by-week prescription for all 16 weeks — exact ball weights, effort percentages, and throw counts
  • Daily readiness system and automatic stop rules
  • Complete testing protocol and KPI dashboard
  • Printable coach log templates
  • Catcher and position-player specific branches
  • Research citations and a responsible-use / scope disclaimer throughout

The Facility Arm Speed System replaces guesswork with a plan.

Coach-controlled performance training program. Not medical care, injury rehabilitation, or a return-to-throwing protocol. Athletes with pain, prior surgery, or unresolved symptoms require evaluation from a licensed sports-medicine professional.
